The Coalition for Community Solar Access (“CCSA”) is seeking qualified applicants for a Regional Director to cover the Midwest US region, with a primary focus on Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. The anticipated start date for this position is immediate. CCSA is a growing organization working to open, protect, and serve markets for community solar across the country.

The Midwest Regional Director will serve as lead for all community solar market campaigns in the Midwest with a focus on IL, WI, MI, and OH. The Midwest Regional Director will guide development and implementation of community solar programs to meet organizational Core Principles and ensure market best practices. The Midwest Regional Director will report to CCSA’s Vice President of Campaigns. CCSA is a fast paced, mission driven, collegial, and fun work environment. Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in electricity market dynamics, renewable energy, and solar energy policy
  • Ability to guide policy and market goals in state regulatory processes
  • Ability to efficiently manage CCSA Member input within organizational Committee process; working alongside the Board of Directors, Members and broader coalitions of local stakeholders
  • Ability to co-lead thought leadership development of policy positions of CCSA with the Vice President of Campaigns
  • Preferred, but not mandatory - proven track record of running and winning legislative campaigns including managing lobbyists, building coalitions, and running public affairs and communications campaigns

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the resident expert for community solar throughout the Midwest
  • Represent CCSA at in person and virtual legislative, regulatory and stakeholder events and manage and co-produce written comments in regulatory proceedings (primarily state-level)
  • Run regular CCSA state committee calls and manage member feedback on legislative and regulatory efforts in Midwest states (IL, MI, WI, OH)
  • Direct existing legislative campaigns to bring community solar to Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio
  • Manage and build coalitions of external stakeholders including allied industry organizations and NGOs to win in state legislative campaigns
  • Manage local lobbying teams to ensure successful execution of priorities
  • Manage local communications efforts to support policy priorities
  • Provide input into long-term planning for industry and organization
  • Develop and deliver periodic reports and updates to membership about plans and efforts in your state/region
  • Provide feedback and basic support to VP of Campaigns and Senior Director, Operations and Membership in efforts to recruit and retain Members, and raise non-Member dues revenues

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7+ years working in electricity markets, with focus on solar energy policy
  • Strong communications and strategic instincts
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Significant experience working in state regulatory processes
  • Potential for ~30% travel requirement to state capitals across the country (total travel time depends on where the candidate is based and cadence of state campaigns)
  • Self-starter, with strong political instincts, and ability to work remotely and while traveling
  • Familiarity with state lobbying ethics rules and responsibility to file appropriate registrations and disclosures

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge and skills of applicant, and alignment with market data.
  • This position includes a competitive benefits package. Benefits include a company sponsored, flexible reimbursement plan for health/dental/vision insurance benefits. The reimbursement plan covers up to 100% of premiums for employees and their families, in addition to co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses. The Coalition for Community Solar Access is a national Coalition of businesses and non-profits working to expand customer choice and access to solar for all American households and businesses through community solar. Our mission is to empower every American energy consumer with the option to choose local, clean, and affordable community solar. We work with customers, utilities, local stakeholders, and policymakers to develop and implement policies and best practices that ensure community solar programs provide a win, win, win for all, starting with the customer.

We promote policies, programs, and practices that:

  1. Allow all consumers the opportunity to participate in and directly economically benefit from the construction and operation of new clean energy assets.
  2. Provide equal access for community solar providers to build and operate community solar projects and interconnect those projects to the serving utility’s grid.
  3. Incorporate a fair bill credit mechanism that provides subscribers with an economic benefit commensurate with the value of the long-term, clean, locally-sited energy produced by community solar projects.
  4. Support the participation of diverse customer types in community solar programs, and encourage customer choice with providers, product features, and attributes to catalyze innovation and best serve customers.
  5. Encourage transparent, non-discriminatory utility rules on siting, and interconnecting projects, and collaboration with utilities to facilitate efficient siting and interconnection.
  6. Ensure that community solar projects are operated and maintained well to protect customers and providers’ investment.
  7. Ensure full and accurate disclosure of customer benefits and risks in a standard, comparable manner that presents customers with performance and cost transparency.
  8. Comply with applicable securities, tax, and consumer protection laws to reduce customer risk and protect the customer.
  9. Maintain a 360-degree view of the community solar market and ensure a beneficial role for all parties in the partnerships forged between subscriber, provider, and utility.
